Sheep to Skein!
$150.00
Fiber Arts Class with Instructor Marcia Weinhert
Date: Thursday, October 1
Time: Full day class begins at 10am
Cost: $150 plus $20 materials fee
Class Description: You’ve learned to spin and you enjoy it—but when you stop by the fleece sale at your favorite festival, you’re just intimidated! In this class, we’ll examine good and “bad” fleeces (fine wools, longwools, double-coated fleeces and other/“medium” wools). Next, we’ll explore scouring and discuss simple acid dyeing techniques at various stages of processing. We’ll decide whether to card or comb, and figure out how this affects spinning techniques. By the end of class, you’ll have an idea of how a fleece still full of “barnyard” can speak to you of what it wants to become!
Experience Level: Must be able to spin a continuous (if not consistent) yarn and ply unaided.
Materials to be provided by instructor: Examples of good and “bad” fleeces (fine wools, longwools, double-coated fleeces and other/“medium” wools), hand cards, wool combs, handouts.
Materials to be provided by students: Spinning wheel in good working order; hand cards or wool combs, if you have them; samples of fleeces about which you have questions.
