Fiber Arts Class with Instructor Marcia Weinert

Date: Saturday, October 5 or Sunday, October 6
Time: Half day class begins at 2pm on Saturday, 
Half day class begins at 10am on Sunday or 1:30pm on Sunday
Cost: $75 plus materials fee

Class Description: Learn to make your own, unique handspun yarn on a spinning wheel! We’ll play with several types of prepared wool while we discuss wheel maintenance, drafting, treadling, plying, and finishing techniques to make a balanced yarn. As time permits, we’ll touch on other fiber preparations and non-wool fibers. Bring your own wheel or use one of ours. No previous experience required. Warning: Spinning can be addictive!

Experience Level: No prior experience required

Materials to be provided by instructor: $5 materials fee covers handouts, all fiber, tools for use in class; $10 rental fee provides a rental wheel for students not bringing their own.

Materials to be provided by students: A spinning wheel in good working order, if possible; wheels can be rented from the instructor for $10.

Beginning Rug Hooking

Fiber Arts Class with Instructor Fern Strong

Date: Saturday, October 5
Time: Half day class begins at 2pm
Cost: $75 plus materials fee

Class Description: This class will provide basic instruction of traditional rug hooking. Students will learn the techniques and the fundamentals of this craft. They will learn how to “pull” loops through a foundation backing. We will discuss fibers that can used: be it wool material, yarn, and other fibers. Also, the different types of foundations. Students will learn to hook a simple pattern. They will learn various ways to finish the pattern. Examples of various finished hooked pieces will be shown and discussed to give the students a background of possibilities to pursue this art form.

Experience Level: No experience required

Materials to be provided by instructor: Materials fee – $25. That includes a pattern, hook, and enough wool to finish the design. The frame the students will use in class can be purchased for an additional fee if desired.

Materials to be provided by students: Small scissors

Fiber Arts Class with Instructor Marcia Weinert

Time: Half day class begins at 10am
Cost: $75 plus materials fee

Class Description: You don’t have to know how to weave, knit or crochet in order to turn a single skein of mohair yarn into a unique and fashionable all-season scarf, which makes a lovely gift for yourself or someone else at any time of year. We’ll just add soapy water—and some elbow grease! Come see how the miracle happens. (Note: Felting requires gentle, sustained physical activity for the duration of class time.)

Experience Level: No prior experience required

Materials to be provided by instructor: $5 fee for handouts, use of all in-class tools: mesh, grip mat, rolling tools, towels; $10 fee if using instructor’s yarns (wide selection)

Materials to be provided by students: 1-2 skeins yarn (50 gr each) containing at least 40% mohair fiber

Intermediate to Advanced Alpaca Spinning

Fiber Arts Class with Instructor Carol Collins

Date: Sunday, October 6
Time: Half day class begins at 2pm
Cost: $75 plus materials fee

Class Description: We will focus in class on spinning and plying Alpaca of different natural colors (undyed) together to create different effects. I’ll demonstrate different kinds of spinning for creating different kinds of yarn.

Experience Level: All students should be comfortable with spinning on wheels or drop spindles. You don’t need to have spun Alpaca before, but comfort with spinning is important.

Materials to be provided by instructor: Materials fee is $25.00. Prepared, ready to spin alpaca fiber will be provided in 3 natural colors. Drop Spindles will be available (of my design) for purchase, at $15.00 each.

Materials to be provided by students: Students will need to either bring their own spinning wheel or drop spindle that they are comfortable with. Spindles will be available for purchase at $15.00 each.
