Fiber Arts Enthusiast and Instructor
Tobi VonTrapp taught Carol to spin in 1973 and she spun for 9 years before her first spinning lesson. Carol studied spinning with Paula Simmons, weaving with Norman Kennedy and Kate Smith, knitting with Rita Buchannan, dyeing with Deb Menz, Vegetal Dyeing with Kate Smith and fiber arts with many other leaders in the field. She founded the Valley Friendly Spinners’ Guild in 1982 and led it for 40 years.
Carol taught many different fiber-related classes at the Vermont and New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festivals, for many years. She was the guest teacher at the Nutmeg Spinners’ Guild, Enfield (Connecticut. She taught classes at the Shelburne Museum and the Sheldon Museum. She has demonstrated wool crafts for many years at The Shelburne Farms Harvest Festival. Carol taught alpaca sorting, washing, carding, spinning for NEAOBA. She taught groups and individuals in Maine, NH, VT and Mass.
Carol started her business called “Singing Spindle Spinnery” in 1982. She has been teaching; wool/fiber washing, carding, blending, spinning, knitting, crocheting, dyeing, circular weaving and felting in her shop/studio and around New England for 42 years. She also produces and sells a wide array of wool crafts and ‘gifts from the garden’ (seeds, cut flowers, herb teas, potted perennials, garden produce).
