Angora Goats & Mohair Products

Dillner Hillside Farm at Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival

The Dillner Hillside Farm is a small fiber farm located in the Green Mountains of northern Vermont. Mohair farmer and fiber artist, Jessica Dillner, focuses on producing high quality handspun mohair yarns, rovings and luxury knitwear.

Jessica has raised angora goats now for 20 years. She takes great pride in producing beautiful mohair products, working herself by hand, through all the fiber preparations: shearing the goats, washing the fleeces, dyeing, spinning, knitting and felting the mohair into a variety of unique items.

One of Jessica’s most popular specialties is 100% kid mohair lock yarns, both natural colored and dyed. Kid mohair is the finest fleece an angora goat produces as a young animal. There is just a small quantity pro-duced each year, so it is an extra special treat to knit with! Jessica shears the kids when the fleece is the correct length and cleanliness, washes the mohair and hand-pulls the locks apart before spinning. The result is a unique novelty yarn that is super soft!

Don’t miss out on this year’s handspun kid mohair!

Jessica enjoys the slow process of mohair lock yarns but she also appreciates a great roving for spinning a more uniform yarn. After washing and sometimes dyeing the mohair, she may add some wool, alpaca, llama or angora sourced from other local farms. A favorite blend ….wool, alpaca and mohair…combines the great traits of each animal fiber into a super versatile yarn. She has a variety of roving and mohair locks on the farm website for sale.

Below Zero Hats

A longtime favorite, Jessica has been making her “Below Zero Hats” for many years! The bulky yarn is handspun specifically for each hat, usually a wool/mohair/alpaca blend. The inner lining headband is a super soft blend of angora bunny. There are several sizes to choose from. Definitely a warm winter knit hat that has been cherished by snow removal operators, farm vets, dog sled mushers, sugar makers and outdoor enthusiasts!
