Festival Contests 2017
Explore your creative side! Our Festival contests are not just for fiber arts. See category descriptions below and let your imagination run wild.
2017 Not-Just-Fiber-Arts Contest Categories:
Any yarn weight is accepted. Yarn must consist of at least 50% animal fiber and can be natural or dyed colors. Show us your spinning magic!
Each handspun skein must contain a minimum of 2 oz of fiber for dk, worsted or bulky weight, 1 oz for lace, fingering or sport weight. Each skein must be 1-1/2 to 2 yards in circumference, wound neatly and tied in at least two places.
Skeins will be judged on consistency of spinning and plying, appropriate hand and overall quality.
Sweaters, Shawls & Socks, Oh My!
This year we hope you will share your hand-knit or crocheted Sweaters, Shawls and Socks at the 2017 Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival. This is always a wonderful opportunity for knitters and crocheters to share your beautiful creations and have them judged by our hand-selected and passionate judges.
These items will have both a commercial and hand-spun category. The judges will be looking at craftspersonship and technique, aesthetics, originality and complexity.
Show us your felted wooly friends; imaginary or realistic, needle felted or wet–felted. These wooly friends always seem to take on a life of their own, and it is hard not to fall in love with every single creation.
Words, Photos & Paintings
Share with us your words and views through poems, photography or drawings and paintings, highlighting and celebrating your unique view of beauty and wonder focused on our animals (sheep, goats, alpacas, llamas, rabbits, cows…even guinea hens! No animal left behind here!) in Vermont’s landscape.
The Next (Wooly) Generation (for fiber lovers 12 and under)
Show off your fiber creations! Knit or crochet clothes for your dolls, a blanket for your dog, a hat or dishtowel, a needle felted picture or what ever your marvelous imagination can come up with using animal fiber as your medium.
